February 13-February 17
Monday, February 13 - Today we will begin finishing up our unit on rhetoric by exploring argument in writing at a deeper level. Students in all classes will have a homework assignment on a "mystery crime scene cartoon" for which they will be required to examine and make claims regarding the events in the cartoon.
We will also work on our Article of the Week.
Tuesday, February 14 - Today students will continue their work on identifying data and making claims based on that data through the use of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. Students are encouraged to bring notes on this play from English II. We will be looking specifically at the arguments made by Brutus and Antony.
First and Second period have a vocab #2 quiz today.
Wednesday, February 15 - Today we will finish up our work on argument and will review for the unit test.
First and Second period have quiz #2 on In Cold Blood today.
Third period has vocab quiz #2 today.
DAY 17 and DAY 18 = RHETORIC UNIT TEST
Thursday and Friday are testing days
February 6-February 10
Monday - First and Third are taking the first vocab quiz today and beginning notes on rhetorical devices.
Third period is taking the SOAPSTone quiz.
Tuesday - All classes will be taking notes on rhetorical devices today. First and Third will be taking the first In Cold Blood Quiz.
Wednesday - All classes will be taking notes on and practicing Close Reading skills today. We will be using the Gettysburg Address as our text.
Thursday - Today we will continue to practice Close Reading and will be using texts from the McCarthy Era as our practice text.
Friday - We will finish up our work / practice for close reading and will be taking the close reading quiz today in all classes... this may happen on Monday. Depends on how far we get this week! Check with the kids!
January 30-February 3
Monday - Today we took notes on argument and SOAPSTone using Lou Gehrig's retirement speech.
Tuesday - Today we began analysis of a music video - either Taylor Swift's Blank Space or Adele's Hello.
Wednesday - Today we completed our analysis of either the Adele video or Taylor Swift (depending on the class). We identified textual evidence for claims regarding the speaker of the text. We also worked on analysis of The King's Speech from George II WWII speech, as well as George W. Bush's 9/11 speech.
Thursday - today we reviewed for the quiz in honors and completed a SOAPSTone for an article from Time magazine. We also continued watching the documentary "Riding the Rails," as we prep for reading Of Mice and Men.
Friday - Honors has a Rhetoric Quiz today and a vocab quiz Monday
